Giant snow globe hire for Christmas markets

Christmas markets live or die on dwell time. Visitors who stop, queue and photograph something spend longer on site and buy more from the traders around them. A 3.5-metre walk-in snow globe gives a market a single fixed landmark that does that job for the whole run, rather than one busy weekend.

This is a planning guide rather than a sales page. Below is what the globe needs from your site, how it behaves in a crowd, and the decisions worth making before you lock your layout.

How much space to allocate

The globe itself is 3.5m x 3.5m, and we work to a 5.5m x 5.5m operational area, but the working area matters more than the structure. Allow a clear zone around the entry side for the queue and for the operator managing entries, and keep a walking lane behind so market circulation is not pinched.

  • ❄A flat, level pitch — paving, tarmac or firm hardstanding all work
  • ❄Space to one side for a queue line rather than across the main flow
  • ❄Clear headroom, away from bunting, festoon runs and low branches
  • ❄An access route wide enough for a trolleyed load-in on the build morning

Power and load-in

The globe runs from a standard supply and needs a reliable feed for the duration of trading, not a shared spur that traders switch on and off. Where a market has no fixed supply, a generator feed works provided it is stable and the cable run is matted and signed.

Load-in is a crewed job. On a market pitch we build outside trading hours so the site is clear, then hand over a globe that is ready to open with your first traders.

Queue flow and dwell time

Photo attractions fail when the queue is unmanaged, not when the attraction is weak. Groups go in for a short slot, throw the snow towards the internal fan themselves so the medium circulates, take their photos and come out. Because circulation is guest-controlled rather than continuous, each group gets a clean, lively scene and you avoid a limp middle of the day.

For markets, short timed slots with a visible sign board work better than an open door. It keeps the line moving, gives waiting visitors a clear expectation, and means the traders nearest the globe get browsing footfall from the queue itself.

Branding and photo capture

The globe surround can carry your market identity, sponsor marks or campaign message so every photo taken inside carries it back out to social feeds. Agree artwork early — it is the one element with a real lead time.

A printed hashtag or QR board next to the entry costs nothing and reliably lifts the number of posts you can attribute to the activation.

Weather and outdoor use

Outdoors, wind is the governing factor rather than rain. Our method statements set wind thresholds and the crew ballast and monitor accordingly; if conditions exceed the limit the globe is closed and reopened when they drop. Building that possibility into your programme copy in advance avoids disappointed visitors on the day.

Frequently asked

How long can a snow globe stay on a Christmas market?

From a single trading day to a multi-week festive run. Longer bookings usually give better value per day because build and de-rig happen once, and they let you promote the globe as a fixture of the market rather than a one-off.

Does the globe need to be staffed?

Someone needs to manage entries and slot timings. We can supply crew, or brief your own stewards and provide the operating instructions and RAMS pack.

Is the falling snow safe indoors and outdoors?

The medium is a dry eco artificial snow made from vegetable starch derived from potato and turnip. It is non-toxic, and is swept and reused between sessions with no liquid and no residue on clothing. It circulates only when guests throw it towards the internal fan.
