Outdoor event and festival attraction hire
Outdoor event attraction hire places an illuminated 3.5-metre walk-in globe on hardstanding or grass at markets, festivals and open-air events. It's ballasted, weather-planned and crewed, and it looks its best after dark when most outdoor dressing stops working.

Who is outdoor event attraction hire for?
It suits teams who need a physical reason for people to visit, stay longer and share the visit — without taking on the staffing, safety or logistics themselves.
Event and festival organisers
Programmers who need a centrepiece that fills a photo brief, holds a safe queue and doesn't require a build.
Christmas market operators
Teams needing an after-dark anchor between trading chalets that keeps visitors on site into the evening.
Local authority and destination teams
Anyone programming a public event who needs documented safety, insurance and a supplier who arrives self-sufficient.
Venues with outdoor space
Garden centres, attractions, stadiums and hotels with a courtyard, car park or lawn to activate seasonally.
What problems does it solve?
It fixes the gap between attracting footfall and holding it: something worth queueing for, run by someone else, with the compliance paperwork already done.
Outdoor dressing dies after dark
The globe is internally lit, so it becomes stronger as the light drops — exactly when evening trade needs a draw.
No time or budget for a build
It arrives, is ballasted and is live in around two to three hours, with no groundworks, scaffold or structural sign-off.
Weather risk
Ballasting and a wind-monitoring plan are written into the method statement, with clear thresholds for pausing operation.
Power uncertainty on site
We work from two standard 13A sockets (1.8 kVA / 8.0A). Where no suitable mains supply exists, we recommend the client arranges a safe generator solution; we do not provide generator hire.
Public event compliance
Site-specific RAMS and £10 million public liability cover are supplied for your event safety file and any licensing requirement.
What are the benefits?
A small footprint, a predictable operating model, branding on every photo taken inside, and documentation your venue can sign off before you commit.
- Internally lit — the attraction peaks after dark, when outdoor events need it most.
- Ballasted for outdoor siting on hardstanding, grass or a market square.
- Crewed operation with a documented weather plan and clear stand-down thresholds.
- Small footprint that slots between chalets, stalls or a stage and a bar.
- Self-sufficient crew and kit, including generator running where no supply exists.
- Documented and insured for public events and local authority sign-off.
How does the service work?
We assess the site and ground conditions, agree ballasting and a weather plan, arrive self-sufficient with power if needed, and crew timed group entries through your event hours, including after dark.
Step by step
- 1Site and ground assessmentWe confirm the surface, levels, access route, ballast method and where the queue will stand.
- 2Weather and safety planningThe method statement sets out ballasting, wind monitoring and the thresholds at which the crew pause operation.
- 3Power planWe work from two standard 13A sockets (1.8 kVA / 8.0A). Where no suitable mains supply is available, the client arranges a safe generator solution; we do not provide generator hire.
- 4Documentation for the event fileSite-specific RAMS and £10 million public liability cover go to your event safety officer or licensing contact.
- 5Build and ballastCrew build, ballast and dress the globe on site, typically within two to three hours and inside your build window.
- 6Crewed operation, including after darkTimed group entries run through event hours, with lighting on as dusk falls and crew managing the queue.
- 7De-rig and site clearanceWe strike, recover ballast, clear the medium and leave the ground as we found it.
What options are available?
You choose the season and theme, the level of branding, the crewing model, the content capture and the run length. Additional props can also be hired at a cost.
Seasonal build
Christmas and summer builds cover the two busiest outdoor programming windows; Halloween and Easter suit half-term events.
Event or sponsor branding
Exterior wrap and interior backdrop dressed to the event identity or a sponsor's campaign.
Power package
Generator, cabling and matting supplied where the site has no usable fixed supply.
Queue infrastructure
Barriers, matting, branded stanchions and directional signage for busy open sites.
Hosts and performers
A costumed performer or host to hold attention across the site and manage the entry point.
Multi-day or touring
Weekend events, multi-week market runs or a series of dates across a season, quoted as one programme.
What materials, products and kit are supplied?
Everything arrives with us: the 3.5-metre structure, the blower and guarded internal fan, the seasonal medium, ballast, lighting, cabling and the dressing. You supply the space and access to two standard 13A sockets.
The 3.5m globe structure
A 3.5-metre walk-in dome on a weighted base, with a clear front panel and a zipped entry. The structure itself is 3.5m × 3.5m × 3.5m; in operation it needs a 5.5m × 5.5m area with 4m of clear height, plus separate queueing space.
Continuous-flow blower and internal fan
A low-noise blower holds the structure inflated for the whole session, and a guarded internal fan lifts the medium only when guests throw it toward the fan themselves.
Snow medium and seasonal alternatives
Eco artificial snow for winter builds — made from vegetable starch derived from potato and turnip, dry and non-toxic, with material and fire certification available on request — plus petals for spring, leaves for autumn and lightweight confetti or printed vouchers for brand games. All swept, collected and re-bagged between sessions.
Anchoring and ballast
Indoors the base is weighted and cable routes are matted and taped. Outdoors we add ballast to the manufacturer's pattern and monitor wind against a written stand-down limit.
Lighting and power
Warm interior lighting plus exterior wash, running from two standard 13A sockets — 1.8 kVA / 8.0A in total. Where no suitable mains supply exists, we recommend the client arranges a safe generator solution; we do not currently provide generator hire.
Branding and dressing
Printed exterior wrap, base skirt and interior backdrop, plus themed props: tree, snowman, egg display, pumpkins or product plinths. Additional props can be hired at a cost.
Weather and outdoor kit
Additional ballast, ground protection for grass or block paving, IP-rated distribution, and an anemometer reading logged against the written wind stand-down limit.
How much does outdoor event attraction hire cost?
Every booking is quoted individually rather than from a published rate, because duration, siting, hours, theming and location change the cost significantly. Longer runs are quoted at a lower daily rate.
Outdoor bookings are quoted individually. Alongside duration and hours, the two costs specific to outdoor work are ballasting and power: a site with no usable supply needs a generator and a fuel plan.
Quotes include delivery, build, ballasting, dressing, crewed operation, de-rig, site-specific RAMS and £10 million public liability cover. Generator hire, queue furniture, hosts and branding are itemised.
Multi-day markets and event series are the most cost-effective way to book outdoors, because ballasting, travel and build are absorbed once across a longer run.
What affects the price?
Six things move a quote more than anything else: how long you need it, whether it's indoors or out, the hours you want it crewed, the theming, the location and the add-ons.
Length of hire
A one-day activation carries the same delivery, install and de-rig as a five-week run, so longer bookings are quoted at a lower daily rate.
Indoor or outdoor siting
Outdoor sites need ballast, weather monitoring and sometimes a generator. Indoor sites are usually simpler to run but often have out-of-hours load-in windows.
Opening hours and crew
Crew is costed against the hours you want the globe live. Extended evenings or multi-session days need a second crew member.
Theming and branding
Standard themed dressing is included. Bespoke printed wraps, custom interior backdrops and additional props are quoted on top.
Location and access
We cover the whole of Great Britain. Distance, congestion or clean-air charges and awkward load-in routes all affect logistics.
Add-ons
Hosts, performers, photo backdrops and share prompts, queue management and extra props are priced individually, so you only pay for the ones you use.
Power availability
Two usable 13A sockets on site keep costs down. Where power has to come from a client-arranged generator, cabling and site distribution add planning time.
Ground conditions and ballast
Grass, uneven ground or exposed sites need more ballast and more setup time than level hardstanding.
How long does it take?
Quotes come back within 48 hours, four to six weeks is a comfortable booking lead time, and installation takes around two to three hours on a prepared site; de-rig is planned separately.
- Enquiry to quote
- Within 48 hours. We confirm globe and crew availability for your dates and send a written quote with theming options.
- Booking lead time
- Four to six weeks is comfortable for a standard hire. Christmas dates are the exception — the best slots are usually taken by late summer.
- Bespoke artwork
- Allow three weeks from artwork sign-off for printed wraps and interior backdrops. This is the most common cause of a rushed build.
- Install and de-rig
- Install and dressing takes around two to three hours on a prepared site; de-rig and clearance is under two hours. Both can run outside your trading hours.
- Event safety and licensing
- Allow two to three weeks for an event safety officer or licensing team to review documentation before your build date.
What are the most common mistakes?
Five recur often enough that we check for them at booking. Each one is cheap to avoid at the planning stage and expensive to discover on install day.
| Mistake | Where we see it | How to avoid it |
|---|---|---|
| No named decision-maker for outdoor stand-downs | Multi-day outdoor runs in autumn and winter | Name one person at booking who can call a pause on wind, and agree the limit in writing. |
| Placing the globe where the queue blocks a fire route | Mall walkways and marquee entrances | Draw the queue on the plan, not just the unit. We mark the line as part of the site proof sheet. |
More of what we have observed, measured and changed is in inside the globe.
How does it compare with the alternatives?
Against bigger builds it wins on footprint, lead time and cost; against passive dressing or digital-only campaigns it wins on dwell time and content. Its limit is capacity — roughly 20 groups an hour.
| Option | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Illuminated walk-in globe | An after-dark photo centrepiece with a small footprint and no build, crewed and insured. | Weather-dependent operation and capped throughput of roughly 20 groups an hour. |
| Funfair ride | High-capacity thrill and long dwell time across a large site. | Large footprint, heavy power draw, noise and a very different visitor profile. |
| Stage or live programme | Peak moments that gather a big crowd at set times. | Nothing to do between performances, and infrastructure and licensing costs are far higher. |
| Light trail or festoon scheme | Atmosphere across a whole site at relatively low operating cost. | Passive — visitors pass through rather than stopping, queueing or engaging. |
| Marquee-based attraction | Weather-proofed space for a larger activity or seated experience. | Bigger build, longer install, more ground protection and much less photographic impact. |
What does it look like in practice?
These are the formats we're booked for most often. Each one is written up in full in the typical install formats below.
- A city Christmas market using the illuminated globe as its after-dark centrepiece on hardstanding.
- A coastal destination running the summer build as a school-holiday photo set on the promenade.
- A garden centre siting the Christmas Globe in its outdoor display area across December weekends.
- A community event programming the Halloween Globe for an evening trail in half-term.
What do we know that a brochure won't tell you?
Four things decide whether an activation feels calm and successful or stretched and apologetic. They come from running these, not from selling them.
Point the entry away from the prevailing wind
Small siting decisions matter more outdoors than indoors. Orientation affects both guest comfort and how long the crew can keep running in fresh conditions.
Programme the dusk hour deliberately
The globe's strongest hour is the one either side of sunset. Outdoor events that push their marketing towards that window get noticeably better content.
Protect the queue, not just the attraction
Matting and a defined lane keep an outdoor queue standing in the same place all day. Without it, footfall churns the ground and the line drifts.
Agree the stand-down call in advance
Wind thresholds are in our method statement for a reason. Agreeing who makes the pause call, and how it's communicated, prevents an argument on the day.
Frequently asked questions
The questions that come up in almost every enquiry, answered up front.
Can the globe be used outdoors?
Yes. It's ballasted for outdoor siting on hardstanding or grass, with wind monitoring and stand-down thresholds set out in the site-specific method statement.
What happens in high winds or heavy rain?
Operation continues in ordinary British weather. In sustained high winds the crew pause entries on safety grounds, following the thresholds agreed in the method statement.
What if there's no power on site?
Where no usable mains supply exists, we recommend the client arranges a safe generator solution — we do not currently provide generator hire — and we plan cable routing and protection around it.
Does it work after dark?
It's internally lit and looks its strongest at dusk and after dark, which suits evening markets and late event trading.
What documentation do you provide for an event safety file?
A site-specific outdoor risk assessment and method statement plus £10 million public liability cover, supplied before the build so your safety officer can review them.
