Shopping centre and retail destination attraction hire

Shopping centre attraction hire puts a crewed 3.5-metre walk-in globe on your concourse for a weekend, a school holiday or a full season. It occupies a small footprint, holds a queue safely and gives shoppers a reason to stay on site longer.

Who is shopping centre attraction hire for?

It suits teams who need a physical reason for people to visit, stay longer and share the visit — without taking on the staffing, safety or logistics themselves.

Centre and marketing managers

Teams with a seasonal campaign to deliver, a footfall target to hit and limited concourse space to give away.

Operations and facilities teams

Anyone who has to approve a contractor on site and needs RAMS, insurance and a clean load-in plan before saying yes.

Retail parks and outlet villages

Open-air destinations that need an attraction which works on hardstanding and after dark.

Asset managers and landlords

Owners looking for evidence that placemaking spend produced dwell time and content, not just decoration.

What problems does it solve?

It fixes the gap between attracting footfall and holding it: something worth queueing for, run by someone else, with the compliance paperwork already done.

Concourse space is scarce and revenue-generating

A 5.5m × 5.5m operational area around the 3.5m globe fits where a build or a ride never could, and it can be relocated between zones.

Seasonal dressing doesn't create dwell time

Decoration is passed. An attraction is queued for, and queueing is the dwell time that converts into spend.

Centre teams are already stretched

Our crew run the activation across trading hours, so your team aren't pulled onto queue marshalling at peak.

Contractor approval takes weeks

Site-specific RAMS, method statements and £10 million cover are supplied at quote stage so approval runs in parallel with planning.

Load-in windows are tight

Installation takes around two to three hours; de-rig takes around two hours. Both are scheduled outside trading hours where the centre requires it.

What are the benefits?

A small footprint, a predictable operating model, branding on every photo taken inside, and documentation your venue can sign off before you commit.

  • Fits a concourse, mall court or outdoor square: 3.5m × 3.5m of equipment in a 5.5m × 5.5m operational area.
  • Branded to the centre campaign inside and out, so shopper photos carry your message.
  • Crewed across trading hours, including evening and weekend peaks.
  • Approvable: site-specific RAMS, method statement and £10 million public liability cover.
  • Redressable each season, so one supplier covers Christmas, Easter, Halloween and summer.
  • Predictable capacity for marketing promises: about 20 groups an hour.

How does the service work?

We survey the space, agree the footprint and queue layout with your operations team, supply the paperwork for contractor approval, then install outside trading hours and crew the globe through your opening times.

Step by step

  1. 1Space and campaign briefYou tell us the zone, the trading hours and the campaign the activation has to support.
  2. 2Survey and layoutWe confirm the footprint, queue lane, exit route, power point and load-in route — usually on a site visit for centre work.
  3. 3Paperwork for approvalSite-specific RAMS, method statement and insurance go to your operations and health and safety teams for sign-off.
  4. 4Artwork and dressingCentre branding is applied to the wrap, base skirt and interior backdrop, with artwork deadlines agreed on booking.
  5. 5Out-of-hours installCrew load in and build within your permitted window so the concourse opens with the attraction live.
  6. 6Crewed tradingTimed group entries run through opening hours, with our crew handling briefing, resets and queue flow.
  7. 7De-rig and reportingWe strike outside trading hours, clear the site and provide throughput figures for your post-campaign reporting.

What options are available?

You choose the season and theme, the level of branding, the crewing model, the content capture and the run length. Additional props can also be hired at a cost.

Season and theme

Christmas, Easter, Halloween and summer builds let you keep the same site and paperwork across the trading calendar.

Centre-branded dressing

Printed wraps and interior backdrops carrying the centre's campaign, retailer partners or a charity message.

Hosted operation

Add a host or costumed performer to greet families and keep the queue moving during peak trading.

Guest photos and data capture

Branded backdrops and share prompts that make it easy for guests to photograph and post their own shots, plus optional opt-in data capture at the exit.

Trail integration

Use the globe as the finale of a centre-wide trail so visitors move through more of the scheme to reach it.

Run length

Weekend takeovers, half-term weeks or a full Christmas season, quoted at a reduced daily rate for longer runs.

What materials, products and kit are supplied?

Everything arrives with us: the 3.5-metre structure, the blower and guarded internal fan, the seasonal medium, ballast, lighting, cabling and the dressing. You supply the space and access to two standard 13A sockets.

The 3.5m globe structure

A 3.5-metre walk-in dome on a weighted base, with a clear front panel and a zipped entry. The structure itself is 3.5m × 3.5m × 3.5m; in operation it needs a 5.5m × 5.5m area with 4m of clear height, plus separate queueing space.

Continuous-flow blower and internal fan

A low-noise blower holds the structure inflated for the whole session, and a guarded internal fan lifts the medium only when guests throw it toward the fan themselves.

Snow medium and seasonal alternatives

Eco artificial snow for winter builds — made from vegetable starch derived from potato and turnip, dry and non-toxic, with material and fire certification available on request — plus petals for spring, leaves for autumn and lightweight confetti or printed vouchers for brand games. All swept, collected and re-bagged between sessions.

Anchoring and ballast

Indoors the base is weighted and cable routes are matted and taped. Outdoors we add ballast to the manufacturer's pattern and monitor wind against a written stand-down limit.

Lighting and power

Warm interior lighting plus exterior wash, running from two standard 13A sockets — 1.8 kVA / 8.0A in total. Where no suitable mains supply exists, we recommend the client arranges a safe generator solution; we do not currently provide generator hire.

Branding and dressing

Printed exterior wrap, base skirt and interior backdrop, plus themed props: tree, snowman, egg display, pumpkins or product plinths. Additional props can be hired at a cost.

Queue line and mall protection

Retractable posts or branded queue line, floor protection for polished surfaces, and matting over any cable run crossing a walkway.

How much does shopping centre attraction hire cost?

Every booking is quoted individually rather than from a published rate, because duration, siting, hours, theming and location change the cost significantly. Longer runs are quoted at a lower daily rate.

Centre bookings are quoted individually. Duration is the biggest single lever: a full seasonal run costs far less per day than a single weekend because delivery, install and de-rig are fixed costs however long the globe stays.

Quotes cover delivery, install, dressing, crewed operation across your trading hours, de-rig, site-specific RAMS and £10 million public liability cover. Centre-branded artwork, hosts, share prompts and queue furniture are itemised so you can match them to your campaign budget.

If you're comparing us against a build or a ride, compare cost per dwell-minute rather than headline hire cost — that's where a small crewed attraction usually wins on a concourse.

What affects the price?

Six things move a quote more than anything else: how long you need it, whether it's indoors or out, the hours you want it crewed, the theming, the location and the add-ons.

Length of hire

A one-day activation carries the same delivery, install and de-rig as a five-week run, so longer bookings are quoted at a lower daily rate.

Indoor or outdoor siting

Outdoor sites need ballast, weather monitoring and sometimes a generator. Indoor sites are usually simpler to run but often have out-of-hours load-in windows.

Opening hours and crew

Crew is costed against the hours you want the globe live. Extended evenings or multi-session days need a second crew member.

Theming and branding

Standard themed dressing is included. Bespoke printed wraps, custom interior backdrops and additional props are quoted on top.

Location and access

We cover the whole of Great Britain. Distance, congestion or clean-air charges and awkward load-in routes all affect logistics.

Add-ons

Hosts, performers, photo backdrops and share prompts, queue management and extra props are priced individually, so you only pay for the ones you use.

How long does it take?

Quotes come back within 48 hours, four to six weeks is a comfortable booking lead time, and installation takes around two to three hours on a prepared site; de-rig is planned separately.

Christmas dates
Book by late summer. Prime December weekends in centres are the first slots to go each year.
Enquiry to quote
Within 48 hours. We confirm globe and crew availability for your dates and send a written quote with theming options.
Bespoke artwork
Allow three weeks from artwork sign-off for printed wraps and interior backdrops. This is the most common cause of a rushed build.
Install and de-rig
Install and dressing takes around two to three hours on a prepared site; de-rig and clearance is under two hours. Both can run outside your trading hours.
Contractor approval
Allow two to three weeks for centre health and safety sign-off, though it runs in parallel with everything else once you have our RAMS.

What are the most common mistakes?

Five recur often enough that we check for them at booking. Each one is cheap to avoid at the planning stage and expensive to discover on install day.

More of what we have observed, measured and changed is in inside the globe.

How does it compare with the alternatives?

Against bigger builds it wins on footprint, lead time and cost; against passive dressing or digital-only campaigns it wins on dwell time and content. Its limit is capacity — roughly 20 groups an hour.

What does it look like in practice?

These are the formats we're booked for most often. Each one is written up in full in the typical install formats below.

  • A regional centre running the Christmas Globe as its anchor attraction from late November to Christmas Eve.
  • A retail destination using the Easter Globe as the finish line of a centre-wide family trail.
  • A leisure and retail scheme programming the Halloween Globe across October half-term.
  • An outlet village siting the summer build on an outdoor square for the school holidays.

What do we know that a brochure won't tell you?

Four things decide whether an activation feels calm and successful or stretched and apologetic. They come from running these, not from selling them.

Site it where the queue helps you

A queue in the right place pulls shoppers past the units you want trading. In the wrong place it blocks a fire route. Decide the queue line first, then the globe position.

Publish session times, not open access

Timed entry manages expectation. Centres that advertise 'all day, walk up' end up turning families away at peak; centres that publish sessions fill the quiet hours instead.

Give retailers a way in

The interior backdrop is prime space. Selling or gifting it to an anchor tenant or charity partner turns the activation into a commercial asset rather than a cost line.

Frequently asked questions

The questions that come up in almost every enquiry, answered up front.

Will the attraction fit our concourse?

It needs a level 5.5m × 5.5m operational area with 4m clear height for the 3.5m globe, plus queueing space judged on expected footfall. We confirm the exact layout on a site survey before you commit to dates.

Can you install outside trading hours?

Yes. Install and dressing take around two to three hours and are routinely scheduled overnight or before opening to suit centre restrictions.

What documentation do you provide for contractor approval?

A site-specific risk assessment and method statement written for indoor retail settings, plus £10 million public liability cover, all available before booking.

How do we brand it for the centre campaign?

Exterior wrap, base skirt and interior backdrop are printed to your artwork or brand guidelines. Allow three weeks from artwork sign-off.

How do we report on the activation?

Our crew log group throughput, so you can report visits alongside your own footfall and dwell data at the end of the run.
